OK, I finally got round to giving the illuminarty samples a proper test. More after the jump…
The good folk at Illuminarty sent me even more colours! so down there from the the top we’ve got:
Beige, Signal Grey, Light pink, Strawberry Red, Purple, Telemagenta, Pure Orange, Signal Yellow, Traffic Red, Ochre Brown, Yellow Green, Sky Blue, Green Blue and Signal Blue. My initial concerns about the Strawberry Red being a bit thick and bubbly have been alleviated by just giving it a decent shake before using it.

Didn’t really plan out a colour scheme, but the blue’s looked pretty thick so I figured I’d start with a 3 shade faded fill.
All done with the standard caps that come with the paint. More out of laziness than anything else, but you can see they worked and got the job done perfectly well.

You can see for yourselves that it copes fine in terms of lighter shades over darker ones for coverage, and the standard cap was versatile enough for me to do cut backs without making a drippy mess.
The grey was a bit thinner, but that’s to be expected of lighter shades really.
The pressure in the beige felt higher than the rest which made it a bit trickier to control with the standard cap, but again I’m putting that down to the colour being light / thin. A quick blast upside down to release some of the propellant sorted it out fine.

How bashy is that telemagenta?! Almost neon. Yellow Green highlights came out a treat too.

Bam. Done. Quick thing without any plan for the colour scheme – just started chucking it on the wall and it all coped fine. Forgot to use any of the Traffic Red, but take it from me it’s live.

I’ve also had a quick chat with the illuminarty man dem, and conducted what passes for an interview round here…In short here’s what you need to know:
Sales are increasing week on week currently – so much so that wholesale distribution operations have had to be pushed back till October when Illuminarty will be expanding their base of operations.
Hopefully not long after that we can expect more colours. The iluminarty team have invested some serious cash into all this and unlike other companies, are passing the savings directly onto the end user.
At £2.15 a tin I say buy all you can. Lets work our way out of recession with affordable vandalism – it’s good for the economy or something…I haven’t worked out all the details on that one yet, but you get what I mean. Support your local paint dealer.
Anyway, what else did we disscuss… Ah yeah basically it’s a stack ‘em high sell ‘em cheap mentality. Illuminarty are obviously a business looking to make money, but they have a genuine love for UK graff and are doing positive things by making good paint affordable. There’ll be none of that sponsored writers nonsense – although I’m trying to convince them a HYB colour would be a big look – GingerPrince Orange anyone? haha…+ They are very happy that some big name writers are already lending their endorsement to the product which says more about it than any product review really so I’ll leave it there. It’s all about affordable quality paint that’s distributed by UK owners.
Still smells funny though but I think we can let that one go!
***EDIT***
I should just point out that while Illuminarty is an entirely UK owned and run company, there are only a handful of paint manufacturers world wide, and they have asked me to clarify that the paint is actually imported from overseas (which when you think about it, makes the price even more impressive)
Apologies for any confusion when I implied it was a UK manufactured paint as that is NOT the case at all.
The official line on where it’s from is as follows:
“Illuminarty Colors is a UK owned company and our products are designed in the UK and distributed world-wide from our UK headquarters. Our spray paint range is manufactured in the Far East utilising the finest raw materials sourced from around the world”
